Zsanna Béni
Afteschool Program Manager – Csata School Lower GradesDuring my former 12 years of teaching as a primary teacher and an English as a foreign language teacher, I preferred those kinds of activities which stepped outside the box. Leaving the usual classroom routine, I could work with my students solving everyday tasks in a fun way while they used the foreign language to learn something new. This is the best way to acquire a new language and it also develops other skills and competences, their personality, widens their perspective of the world and forms the participants into a community.
All the summer camps and trips provided this opportunity, just as well as working in England in an international team of activity leaders where I gained experience in organizing fun educational freetime activities for socially disadvantaged children. I applied the earned knowledge into my teaching practice in the bilingual school programmes in the classes and in the main projects of the school year. We built projects around special days and holidays focusing on the intercultural competences while children were simply having fun.
I am glad to see that BGC provides these benefits to the learners in order to become active participants of the learning process by getting to know the world through acquiring English in a playful way. My uppermost aim as a coordinator is to maintain BGC values in a cooperative way fulfilling the demands and needs of children, the requirements of parents utilizing the enthusiasm and expertise of our teachers.
